Building on the Built with Richard Murphy
We were delighted to host Richard Murphy last week at our latest Building on the Built event; held at our west London studio.
Richard founded his own Edinburgh-based architecture practice in 1991, and in the years since his studio have become renowned for their experimental approach to working with existing buildings around Scotland and beyond.
Alongside an impressive award-winning portfolio, Richard is the author of three books on the Venetian architect Carlo Scarpa, most recently a monograph on Scarpa’s work at the Castelvecchio.
‘Outside of northern Italy no one has contributed more to our understanding of Carlo Scarpa than Richard Murphy, as his brilliant and exhaustive example of the Castelvecchio reveals.’
Kenneth Frampton
Richard’s presentation revolved around themes including layering the façade, building inside a building, cutting to reveal, orthogonal alongside organic and the ‘over expression’ of an idea, in relation to the Castelvecchio in Verona.
We would like to thank Richard and everyone who attended for contributing to such a memorable night. Follow our social channels for updates on our next talk in 2024!
