Adapting, Developing

Tuckey Design Studio was founded on the principle of reuse. Our portfolio features many buildings which once served other uses; schools, workshops, churches, offices, homes. The reuse of existing structures presents an opportunity to conserve resources and contribute to a fascinating dialogue between old and new, maintaining the rich patina and history of a place in preparation for a new purpose.

Collaborating, Researching

We question what the user needs from each building from the outset, listening keenly and taking time to understand the requirements that will define a successful space. We place our clients, collaborators, and occupants at the core of each project, mapping design explorations through sketches, models and maquettes to interrogate the potential of a concept.

Model making and sketching is integral to our design process.

Across Scales

Each project is more than a building; it requires a deep understanding of the buildings’ relationship to users, site, and context as a whole. We take a cohesive approach to architecture, interior design and landscape, connecting concepts to inform a refined, unified spatial language at personal and civic scales.

For Future Generations

Sustainable design is that which will be maintained, cared for, and endures. Crucially, good, efficient design should be accessible to all. The practice engages with private and public commissions, as well as offering a limited number of pro bono feasibility studies annually. We support organisations who too can benefit from a specialist approach to the reuse of existing buildings and low carbon new construction.
