Whistle stop site updates

With 2025 in full swing, our studio has been busy with several projects on site at various stages. Here we take a tour across Italy and the UK through some of our residential commissions with an update on their progress.

Contessa’s House
Menaggio, Italy

Nearing completion on the shores of Lake Como is the restoration of a 19th century villa. Set over 5 floors, the residence is now defined by the beautifully upgraded campanile tower and balconies on the exterior, and a distinctly contemporary and graceful interior, with terrazzo flooring, bespoke joinery, and marble features throughout. A 25-meter pool strengthens the relationship to the newly landscaped garden, with a generous veranda for al fresco dining.

Rudere
Piedmont, Italy

Set within the vineyards of the Alpine foothills is an agricultural ruin undergoing a dramatic conversion. A cork-clad new-build yoga and wellness retreat embraces the repointed original masonry facades, with bedrooms, communal areas, kitchen and studio space housed within the timber framed building. The introduction of courtyards will be opportune for contemplation and relaxation amidst the rural setting.

Villa Maxima
Lombardy, Italy

Construction has started on a sizeable, formerly abandoned, concrete shell above Lake Como. The structure will be a spacious villa complete with indoor pool and spa, dining room, kitchen, cinema and several bedrooms.

Linden Mews
London, England

Last week our team visited Linden Mews, in Notting Hill, as works began to restore and renovate a Victorian two-storey terrace house. The development consists of an internal reconfiguration, new roof, introduction of dormer extension, expressive colour scheme, and a statement stairwell suspended from the ceiling. On site the roof has been removed with the strip out well underway.

Downshire Hill
London, England

Work has just begun on this 1820s Grade II listed Georgian townhouse near Hampstead Heath, located within a conservation area. A contemporary stone extension will house a dining area and bathroom with motifs, such as stepped window surrounds, inspired by Carlo Scarpa. Elsewhere, a coffered ceiling, arched timber cloakroom joinery and chiselled stone worktops add visual intrigue.

Church Green
Hollingbourne, England

In an area of outstanding natural beauty in Kent, there is a timber framed family home undergoing extensive renovation. The existing building, defined by small and congested thresholds, is in the process of being opened up to appreciate the surrounding landscape. A dramatic thermal upgrade will facilitate new double-height voids and protruding extensions that reveal the original oak frame.
