Michelberger Hotel
The Michelberger is an independent hotel within the Friedrichshain district of Berlin. With a reputation for its unusually inclusive approach to hospitality, it functions more like a communal house than a traditional hotel. Set within a heritage former cigarette factory built in 1903, a series of both private and communal living spaces bring warmth and functionality to its industrial shell.
A voluminous central courtyard, with its glazed brickwork and vast warehouse windows has been carefully preserved to remain as the building’s nucleus, a space for hosting events throughout the year.
The guest rooms are defined by a variety of panelled and open framed partitions, creating a sense of enclosure and a subtle zoning of space. Bespoke furniture crafted from plywood and softwood sit in harmony with soft lime plaster walls, sculptural beams, and statement terrazzo tiles.
